In this biopic, we discover Maud Lewis (Sally Hawkins) near the end of her life painting flowers on the wall of the home that she shares with fish merchant Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke). A sufferer from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, she had spent her youth with a domineering aunt and an odious brother. Despite her eventual success, she and Everett remain in their tiny home. Brilliant acting by the 2 principals.
National Society of Critics Award for best actress – Sally Hawkins, and numerous other Canadian awards.
